DAAD-Alumni Education Program

RWTH Alumni Education Program: ‘‘Global Challenge Mining and the Environment“

Alumni-work at the RWTH Aachen University

It is an important matter for the RWTH Aachen University to cultivate contacts with their alumni. In 2001, the University started its central Alumni-activities with the objective of forming a worldwide Alumni-network. Currently a network of 17,500 registered Alumni emerged with an annual increase of 2,000 new members. The Alumni shall be involved as experts and ambassadors at the university processes and their potential shall encourage the cooperations between research and industry as well as international relations. They should become a flagship of RWTH in their home countries. Therefore an active talent pool of  Alumni-ambassadors should be formed. A close co-operation between RWTH and the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) is existing to achieve these purposes.

Alumni-project and advanced training program

In this context, a ten day Alumni advanced training program entitled „Global Challenge Mining and the Environment“ will be realised in June 2017 to support and retain foreign Alumni from developing countries. It will be organized by eight departments of the Faculty of Georesources and Materials Engineering, the executive department ’’Fundraising and Alumni“ and the Department of International Office. This program is sponsored by the DAAD and the BMZ (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development). Within the scope of this program the MRE takes the responsibility for the project coordination within the Faculty of Georesources and Materials Engineering.

Aim of the Project

20 RWTH-Alumni from Argentina, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Mongolia, Turkey, and Vietnam of the developmental and environmental mining-sector of mineral and fossil resources are nominated. The aim of the advanced training program is to qualify the candidates to support an environment-conscious and sustainable encouragement of the mining industry for the economy and social deployment in their home countries. Furthermore, networking and global exchange among each other and with representatives of science and economy shall be induced by taking external instructors into account. In addition, the RWTH Alumni-Network will be expanded and in the long term more international connections between the RWTH University and the participating countries shall be encouraged.

The RWTH University Aachen has the aim to lead a relevant global developmental contribution in the participating countries to solve local problems within the mining sector.
