Welcome and Glueck auf!

The Institute of Mineral Resources Engineering emerged in 2015 from the mining institutes BBK1 and BBK3. Mining Engineering was established in 1880 as one of the first institutes at RWTH Aachen University.

According to our motto “Knowledge to Resource the Future”, the MRE today educates mineral resources engineers and participates in inter- and multidisciplinary research on international level.

Thus, MRE faces the complex challenges of a sustainable supply with mineral commodities by creative approaches in both research and education.

The circle of our partners comprises mainly national and international research institutions, as well as private enterprise companies.

People at MRE

Since 2015, the MRE is directed by Prof. Bernd Lottermoser. Our team comprises engineers and natural scientists from diversified fields and an efficient administration.

Communicating our scientific work is an essential task for our researchers. We use scientific journals and conferences for an national and international, continuous exchange.

Your Thesis

Supervising final theses is an important part of the MRE’s educational services. By providing topics on a regular basis, students get the chance to participate in research projects or to work on practical tasks from the industry.
